During his meeting with the participants of the Summer Academy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria Daniel Mitov outlined a number of new directions for the development of the relations between the counties from both sides of the Mediterranean. Firstly – the need to appreciate more fully the commonality of the challenges and opportunities between us. Secondly, Europe has to reconfirm its commitment to supporting wider economic and institutional development across the Mediterranean as a matter of a long-term version rather than simply ad hoc responses to various crises. Another direction is the enhancement of the business and economic cooperation mind that sustainable economic development, as good economic development is one of the tools for achieving security. And lastly, Minister Mitov put a special emphasis on the existence of a great potential in developing people-to-people contacts, which is still very much underestimated.

In a conclusion Minister Mitov underlined that in our interconnected and complex world governing is becoming ever more difficult, while leadership is becoming ever more essential.
