Security challenges ahead the Euro-Med region and perspectives of Bulgaria’s relations with Tunisia and Morocco were the main topics at the meeting between the participants in Summer Academy with Bulgarian MPs Mr. Stanislav Anastassov, Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Head of Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean and Bulgarian School of Politics Alumnus, and Mr. Atanas Merdzhanov, member of the Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean.

Bulgaria is not on the Mediterranean coast, but with Tunisia and Morocco have common challenges in the field of security, said Mr. Anastassov. In a response to a question about the refugee flows, he was shared the opinion that the borders are not a solution to the problem, the solution is the integration of these people who can contribute to the economic development of the EU.

What we all want for North Africa is stability – stable governments, stable societies, emerging economies, said Mr. Atanas Merdzhanov. He stressed that Bulgaria traditionally maintains very good relations with Tunisia and Morocco, and expressed the hope that we won`t look with nostalgia for the past, and will intensify the contacts in the future.

During the meeting the MPs and the participants talked about the successes and failures during the transition in Bulgaria, the role of civil society, foreign policy priorities of the EU, etc.
