„European Debates” started in 2011 as a joint initiative between the Bulgarian School of Politics “ Dimitry Panitza” and the EC Representation in Bulgaria. Throughout the years, it enlarged and now involves other organizations as well. Its goals are to support young Bulgarian political and civic leaders to actively participate in the debate for the future of Europe, to provoke a broad public discussion on topics key for Bulgaria and the EU, and to become a catalyst for developing and applying new policies.
Information
We monitor hot topics in the society and invite leading politicians, ministers, ambassadors, directors and chair persons of state institutions and leading non-governmental organizations, analysts and experts, who present their views on pressing political and public problems. Topics are upon debate and are from the areas of economy, national and European policy, democracy and civil society.
Active participants in the discussions are the students at the School and the members of the Alumni community. By now more than 500 young political and civic leaders have graduated the Programs and have been actively involved in the process of developing and applying current public policies in Bulgaria. We also invite university professors and students, representatives of non-governmental ogranisations, leading experts, etc.
They have the opportunity to discuss different ideas for solving problems, exchange opinions and share positions, and subsequently to take active part in the process of developing new policies on topics of public importance, thus becoming public opinion leaders.
Our aim is the European Debates initiative to add new ideas, views and topics for political debate and reflection to the public agenda and to support the process of developing new policies.
