The Program for active civic participation and leadership has started

The first course of the Program for active civic participation and leadership took place between 3td and 6th of December in Sofia. The event was officially opened by Dr. Irina Alexieva, executive director of the Bulgarian School of Politics “Dimitry Panitza” and Ms. Emilia Lissichkova, Chair of the Platform AGORA.

The course focus was on the local policies and the structure of the local government. Guest lecturers were  Ms. Elena Popova, a judge at the Special Criminal Court in Bulgaria, Mr. Hristo Panchugov, a political scientist at the New Bulgarian University, prof. Ivanka Mavrodieva, rhetoric professor at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski “, Mr. Ivelin Nikolov, a psychologist and expert in group dynamics training, Mr. Zdravko Sechkov, executive director of the Foundation for Local Government Reform, Mr. Stefan Ivanov, director of the Centre for Regional Studies and a member of the Board of the Club” Economy 2000 “. 24 community leaders had lectures and case studies devoted to the civil law and the separation of powers, the structure of the local governance, mechanisms for the development of local policies, decentralization, persuasive communication, teamwork and leadership.

Special guests during the training were Mr. Ivan Velkov, deputy chairman of the Municipal Council at Sofia Municipality, and Mr. Rumen Pehlivanov, Mayor of Rudozem Municipality.

During the first course of the Program for active civic participation and leadership there was a special training exercise on the “Problem tree” analysis technique. The 24 participants had an individual homework assignment. They had to make “Problem tree” analyzes on the community problems, posed on the community discussions.

The Program for active civic participation and leadership is part of the project “Life changing challanges”, implemented by the Association “Platform AGORA” and the Bulgarian School of Politics “Dimitry Panitza” and is financed by the NGO Programme under the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism.
